Enteral Nutrition Progam
Our Enteral Nutrition Program provides assistance for patients requiring complete or partial supplementation through an alternative means of oral nutrition.
Receive Orders
Our office contacts the patient within 24-48 hours of receiving a referral, verifies insurance, and schedules an initial consult.
Initial Consult
Once a patient requires a feeding tube, the patient will meet with an RD to discuss concerns related to nutrition (ie, medical diagnoses, weight concerns, etc.). This can be done prior to placement to ensure adequate time to order and deliver supplies to the patient.
Complete Orders
Our Registered Dietitian will decide which formula best fits the patients needs, determine a feeding schedule, as well as how much formula the patient needs.
Coordination of Care
Our office will communicate with both the referring MD as well as the infusion company that accepts the patient’s insurance thus allowing a smoother transition in care.
Enteral Nutrition Team
Surgeon
You and your doctor have decided you need supplemental nutrition. Typically done as an out patient procedure, your doctor will discuss which type of tube is best for you and your medical diagnoses. Ask your surgeons office to notify your dietitian about a scheduled PEG placement as soon as possible to allow time to ensure formula is ready following your procedure.
Las Vegas Dietitians
We understand this process can be overwhelming and a difficult transition. A Registered Dietitian is able to determine: type of formula needed, adequate calorie intake, and appropriate feeding schedule. If your your loved one has been discharged home with a feeding tube and you are concerned hydration and nutrition needs are not being met, please contact our office to see how we can help you.
Infusion Company
The RD’s written RX is sent to an infusion company who acts as a pharmacy to supply the formula. They work with your insurance to get formula delivered to your door at little to no cost to you.
Nursing
A nurse will demonstrate how to use the tube and administer the formula. Formula can be given to the patient via pump or bolus. The nurse will review these things with you to ensure you are able to administer the formula correctly. A case manager at the hospital or the surgeon's office will be able to connect you with a hospital nurse or home health nurse to show you how to administer the formula.
