Medicare & Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT)
“Medicare covers medical nutrition therapy services if you have diabetes or kidney disease, or you’ve had a kidney transplant in the last 36 months, and your doctor refers you for services.
Only a Registered Dietitian (or nutrition professional who meets certain requirements) can provide medical nutrition therapy services.
If you get dialysis in a dialysis facility, Medicare covers medical nutrition therapy as part of your overall dialysis care.
If you’re in a rural area, you may be able to get medical nutrition therapy via telehealth from a Registered Dietitian or other nutritional professional in a different location.”

Medicare.Gov Kidney Disease & Dialysis
As a person with kidney disease, you have certain rights and responsibilities. When you go to a treatment center, ask for a copy of your rights and responsibilities. This will help you know what to expect from your health care team and what they can expect from you. Your center's list should include much of the following:
“I have the right to see the dietitian for help with food planning and the social worker for counseling.”
